Tahiti & the movie industry
Eventhough Polynesia offers incredible landscapes and the myth of
South seas still remains, only a few movies have been produced in
the area.
1930 - Tabu by Friedrich
Munrau & Robert Flaherty
Considered
as one of the last masterpieces of the silent cinema, this movie
tells the story of a young man in love with a young woman that had
been chosen by the priest to be the sacred virgin. Because they
violated the taboo, their union ended tragically.
1935 - Mutiny of the Bounty by Franck
Loyd
Starring Charles Laughton and Clark Gable
Today
a well-know classic of the movie industry, it recounts -with a lot
of freedom- the story of the famous mutineers.

1962 - Mutiny of the Bounty by Lewis
Milestone
Starring Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando
This
huge production is a remake of the 1935 version and was partly shot
in Moorea. Once the movie was over, Marlon Brando decided to rent
the atoll of Tetiaroa and he is still the tenant today.

1983 - The Bounty by Roger Donaldson
Starring Anthony Hopkins and Mel Gibson
Very
different from the two previous versions, this adventure movie shows
a Captain Blight not as cruel as the legend and tells a different
story from the ones of Nordhoff and Hall.

2000 - Le Prince du Pacifique by Alain
Corneau
Starring Thierry Lhermitte, Patrick Timsit, Marie Trintignant...
French
movie produced in 2000 at Huahine, it recounts with beautiful pictures
and scenes the romantic story of two French adventurers in 1918.
